Creation

Before things began, reality was a sea. It was an endless, chaotic expanse that extended to infinity in every direction. From this sea of chaos, an infinite number of things were created and then inevitably destroyed. That was, until eventually, a human emerged. First, her will formed, and with that will, she formed hands with which to enact it. Then with those hands, she dragged herself from the abyss and sculpted a head, and a face, and then a body. The first human floated through the sea of chaos for an age, growing ever more discontented. She was smart, and she found that she could avoid the many dooms of the chaos with her wit. But she despaired, for she was alone. And try as she might, she could not make anything even slightly similar to herself. But eventually, a powerful thought struck her, and she was compelled to begin building. She tore clay from the sea, and combined it with bones and blood of other things that had managed to briefly exist in The Sea. After toiling for a very long time, she stood back and observed the effigy she had constructed. It would not be human, it would be better. And so she focused, pushing every fiber of herself and of reality to bring life to this mass of clay, bone, and blood. The first woman spent the rest of her life that way. Though at times she lost hope, she never gave up entirely. With her final breath, and as her body began to return to The Sea, the effigy, now god, began to move. It scooped her up, refilling her with life, and placing her on its shoulder. Then it began to carve away at reality. It dragged land up out of The Sea, creating small bubbles of safety and stability. It did what the first woman could not, and created more humans. None of them were perfect, for the god itself wasn’t perfect, but they would do. They would always have to work to overcome their flaws, and not all of them would succeed, but they would keep trying, just as the first woman had, and that was what mattered. This is how life began in earnest and how it continues to this day. With time, the humans may eventually surpass the god that created them, but only if they can surpass themselves first.

Just a little creation myth I thought up the other day. I was fascinated by the idea of humans creating god in order to accomplish things they couldn’t otherwise. I’m not sure if that idea came across, but I did my best anyway. This isn’t really attached to any world of mine yet, but if I take a liking to it, who knows, maybe I’ll stick it in somewhere. I hope you enjoyed it.
